“Highly recommend Champions Detailing! Our work car was a disaster with stains on the cloth seats and ceiling. After the interior detailing it was almost unrecognizable. All seats and ceiling completely clean and added leather protectant on our doors and dashboard. Will be recommending to friends and family!”

  • Generally speaking, it takes 3-6 hours. However, the materials and conditions of the vehicle have a big impact. There are cases where we can spend up to 1-2 hours extra when we run into unexpected bumps during the process.

  • If it’s relatively warm outside then the vehicle will be 80% dry when we are done. However, if it’s relatively cold during the day it might take a couple more hours to dry.

Detailer extracting stains from car seat

One of the most common issues that we deal with is stain removal. Almost all of our clients ask us to deal with this issue because they can’t get all the stains from their seats. We have to understand that stain removal has a whole science behind it. Thankfully, we are fully trained and equipped to deal with any situation.

For detailing terms, we’ll simplify this science down. Usually, there are two types of stains in a car; organic and non-organic stains. What happens in most interiors are organic stains. These stains are caused by oil from human skin, sweat, food, or even dog poop that we bring in by accident.

Many “detailing” content creators on social media have created a common myth that you can remove all stains with an all-purpose cleaner or degreaser. If it’s just light dirt on the seats or small amounts of non-organic materials, then a degreaser can do the job. However, the sad truth is that this won’t always be viable because they cannot break down most organic matter in your seats.

That’s the importance of having professionals clean your interior. We have commercial-grade products that will break down these organic materials and remove these blemishes from your car seats. The results we can provide are night and day compared to over-the-counter detailing products.

Have you ever sat on a cloth seat while being wet? Did you leave behind a circular stain? These stains are caused by a process called “wicking.” It happens when a solvent (like water) activates a cleaner and pulls up dirt resulting in a stain.

It is also a very common issue that our clients have, especially when they try to clean their own car seats. We’ve seen it time and time again. Regardless of the situation, we have the tools and experience to deal with this. Let’s look at the diagram to understand this concept better.

Diagram showing how excess water on a car seat can cause "wicking" on a car interior.
Diagram showing how water will slowly be absorbed by paper to demonstrate the concept of "wicking."

The longer we leave the straw in the water, the farther the water will travel up the straw. When we apply this concept to car seats, wicking happens on interiors when we introduce water to a seat that has some type of cleaner on it. Without being aware, the water will slowly pull up dirt from under the surface and create a stain on the surface.

Diagram showing that when there's less water in a cup, the less water can travel up a straw. This principle demonstrates the solution to wicking on car interiors.

We can eliminate it by minimizing the amount of water left in the car seat. Let’s go back to the straw example to understand better.

How do we eliminate wicking?

Diagram showing that when we introduce less water into a car seat, less stains will be pulled up.

If we go back to the straw example, the water can’t travel all the way up to a visible area if there isn’t much water in the cup. In the same way, the dirt can’t travel up to a visible level if there isn’t enough water in a car seat.

When we clean your vehicle, we use minimal water and also use a liquid extractor to extract as much water as possible. Our goal isn’t to be drench your seats, it is to use a measured amount of water to remove the cleaning detergents from the surface of your car seat.

Have you ever cleaned your own seats or carpet floor mats? Were they hard after they dried? This is something not many people think about, however it’s a detail that we pay a lot of attention to.

How can I get soft seats?

Picture showing soft fibers on a car floor mat after being cleaned.

They are hard because the seats weren’t returned to it’s original PH level. When car interiors are manufactured, they come in a neutral state at 7. We can refer to the chart below to better understand the affect of PH levels on our car seats.

Like we discussed above, most stains are organic and are caused by some type of food or organic material. These stains are mainly acidic in nature so we have to use something alkaline to combat the acidity.

Most stain removers are alkaline and thus are effective in stain removal. What ends up happening though is that most cleaners will transform the PH level of your car seats to acidic to alkaline. Most people leave their car seats this way and will make the cloth materials in the interior feel stiff.

A diagram of the pH scale from 0 to 14. This diagram shows that when something is acidic, they are sticky and can damage a car interior. When the cloth is alkaline, it will become hard on a car interior.

On the other hand, we make sure we neutralize all cleaners and return the material back to its original pH level. We guarantee that all your upholstery will be super fluffy thanks to our dedicated chemical rinse.

The Importance of Choosing the Professionals

Whenever we clean an interior, we use all this chemistry in your favor. We have the correct chemicals to break down any organic matter and make sure your vehicle is stain free and completely sanitized. You can rest assured that your interior won’t give you any headaches in the future.
