Add the ultimate protection and gloss to your vehicle

20 years ago the best available protectant for your paint was a paste wax or a sealant. They were chemically protective liquid substances that would sit on top of your car paint when applied. They would protect against harmful elements like mineral deposits, bird poop, and acid rain. After 3 months, the liquid substance would deteriorate and would need a fresh layer to be applied. Now, technology has advanced significantly in the detailing industry to create a far superior form of chemical protection: ceramic coatings.

Ceramic coatings are a layer of protection made of silicone dioxide (SiO2) that hardens and bonds on top of your car paint. It seals your original car paint to protect it from chemical damage. It's a long lasting layer that is referred to as a “sacrificial layer.”

What is a ceramic coating?

We usually recommend ceramic coatings for vehicles that are kept outside. Since these vehicles are more exposed to the elements, it makes sense to have a stronger sense of protection. Most garage kept vehicles don’t need the protection, however we can apply ceramic coatings to any car for that unbelievable shine!

Ceramic coatings provide incredible ease of maintenance

  • It’s a one and done deal.

  • The coating can last for 3 years and longer.

  • Witness a new depth of color on your car paint.

  • Your car will always maintain its shine because dirt will run right off.

  • Enjoy a swirl free shine that always catches the eye.

  • No chemical will be able to touch your paint through the this sacrificial layer.

In order to achieve these benefits, the coating must properly be installed. We’ll go through the proper steps to properly coat your vehicle and provide you with the best possible results. Ceramic coating installations can be broken down into 2 parts, the preparation and the coating of the vehicle.

Many look over the preparation step however, it is just as important as actually applying the ceramic coating. Before we can seal in our car paint, it’s extremely important for us to flatten out the car paint through our paint correction service.

This does one of two things. The first  is that it opens up the pores of the car paint so the ceramic coating can properly bond. The second is removing any imperfections from the car paint. It’s highly suggested to remove any swirls or scratches on the car paint because we’ll no longer be able to reach them after we seal the car paint in with the ceramic coating.

When ceramic coatings aren’t done properly it will appear as smudges all across the vehicle. We refer to these smudges as “high spots.” This happens when the ceramic coating isn’t wiped off at the correct time.

Many clients overestimate the capabilities of a ceramic coating. They neglect their vehicles and are disappointed when their paint gets damaged. Ceramic coatings are long-lasting and durable however, that doesn’t mean we can do whatever we want with our vehicles. They have limitations and it’s vital for us to understand what they are so we can properly care for our vehicles.

Common misunderstandings about ceramic coatings

To begin with, ceramic coatings do not protect against deep scratches. Ceramic coatings are hard but are designed only to resist minor scratches that are induced under proper wash methods. These scratches don’t refer to deep ones caused by improper wash methods, rubbing on the paint, or brushing up on bushes.

For example, ceramic coatings have a hardness rating of 9H, the same as a modern screen protector. This rating is significantly harder than the rating of the car paint which comes in between 2H and 5H. Although your screen protector does protect against your fingernail, there are most likely scratches on your phone protector from random dirt or grime that scratched it. This same principle applies to a ceramic coating. It is designed for light scratches and not for protection against harsh abrasives.

To continue, ceramic coatings do not protect against rock chips. Although it is a hardened layer of protection, it is still very thin. No matter how many layers we apply, it will not be enough to stop the impact of a rock.

To demonstrate this, we can use 2 pieces of sticky notes together. They’re pretty thin right? That’s the same depth as all our car paint. There’s no way something that thin will be able to protect against something that is exponentially more massive.

Against popular belief, ceramic coatings require maintenance to guarantee durability. You must properly wash, boost and dry your coating to ensure its longevity. Like everything in life, maintenance is the key. A coating that is rated for 6 years can wear off at 3 years if it is improperly maintained.

For example, ceramic coatings have pores just like our car paint which can become clogged through daily use. We highly suggest that you clean out the pores on the ceramic coating with a decontaminating wash to maintain its protective qualities.

FAQS about Ceramic Coatings

You can read the rest of our faqs here.

It depends on how long the preparation work takes. If it is a level 1 paint correction, then we’ll most likely have enough time to properly prepare the paint and apply the coating at your house. However, if it is a level 2 paint correction then it will need to be dropped off to assure customer satisfaction because of how long it will take.

These are generalities but the service location may change based on your specific case.

Where can this service be completed?

Once the coating is applied, we advise our clients to not wet the vehicle for the next 48 hours so it can fully cure. If you’d like us to maintain your vehicle, you can sign up for one of our maintenance plans.

How long do I have to wait to wash my car?

If your vehicle has a peeling clear coat then a ceramic coating can’t help. It will need to be repainted.

Can a ceramic coating replace a clear coat?

Can I just get the ceramic coating without the paint correction?

Unfortunately, we don’t apply ceramic coatings without a paint correction. It won’t give you the best results and we can’t guarantee customer satisfaction.

A ceramic coating can last between 1 year to 9 years. Our recommendation is to invest in a coating that will last from 3 to 6 years to yield the most from your investment.
